Application for Certificate of Appointment as Estate Trustee

An estate trustee application is a formal request submitted to the court to appoint an individual or institution as the executor of a deceased person's estate. This application outlines the proposed trustee's qualifications, the intention to administer the estate according to the deceased's wishes, and the steps to settle any outstanding debts and distribute assets It is an essential process that ensures the estate is managed and effectively, providing peace of mind to beneficiaries.

As part of the Application for Certificiate of Appointment as Estate Trustee process, the estate must pay an Estate Administration Tax (commonly called probate tax), which is calculated based on the total value of the estate’s assets.

No tax is paid on the first $50,000 of estate value.  For assets above $50,000, the tax is $15 for every $1,000 of value.
